The Abandoned Zones are three slum areas located within the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. These areas consist of Akihabara, Myogadani, and one other ward. These areas normally house the poor or people whose Hues have dropped so low that they cannot stay in normal society.
Arata Shindo theorizes that the reason these places exist is to provide mental breathing room by packaging complex systems of unforeseeable crimes in isolated areas. This also makes them easy to monitor.[1]
