Gu-sung Choe (チェ・グソン, Che Guson) is Shogo Makishima's friend and right-hand man. He is an expert hacker able to breach the security system of the Sibyl System's core and witness its true form.
Appearance
Choe is a male of average height and build in his 40's. He has heterochromian eyes (red/yellow) that he usually keeps closed and short, straight brown hair with long bangs covering the right side of his face. He is typically seen wearing a blue jacket, purple shirt and green trousers. His right ear is pierced.
Personality
He is a scientific genius with a talent for spreading internet rumors and causing temporary chaos. Like Makishima, he wants to see the Sibyl System dismantled. He cares not for others and has no problem with people dying, as long as it furthers his goals. Despite this, he sometimes shows that he can only tolerate blood and gore to a certain extent, as seen when he leaves Rikako Oryo to dissect her victim alone, unwilling to witness it.
Personal Background
Anime Version
As a child, Choe flees with his family to Japan because there is war in his homeland, Korea.[1] In correlation with a statement he makes in the episode, this likely happens in 2097. His eyes are damaged at some point and are replaced with artificial ones in order to save his life. He has been researching the Sibyl System for five years.[2] Around 2111, Choe meets Makishima for the first time; therefore, doesn't know about Kozaburo Toma.
Novel Version
Before being sent to Japan for a mission around 2097, Choe works for the Korean military, specializing in sabotage and cyber warfare. Korea is destroyed during the war and after wandering aimlessly for ten years, Choe becomes an acquaintance of Makishima around 2107.
Relationships
Shogo Makishima
Choe is Makishima's right-hand man and the closest thing to a friend the man knows. Despite what Makishima does, Choe sticks around, serving as a messenger between "clients" and Makishima.
