Rin Otomo (大友 燐 Ootomo Rin) is the wife of Itsuki Otomo who works as a Drone Unit Operator in the 15th Joint Task Force of the National Defense Forces, but leaves the military to work at a television station.[2]
Appearance[]
Otomo is a female of average height and a slender build who appears to be ini her 30's. She has large brown eyes and wavy, shoulder-length, dark brown hair. She is typically seen wearing civilian clothing when working in the private sector, but military garb and a camouflage jumpsuit in the military sector.[2]
Personality[]
At first, she is a gentle and calm woman who speaks in a soft voice and is teased by her colleagues when she tells them about her change of jobs. However, when her husband Itsuki Otomo goes missing-in-action, then miscarries their unborn child, her Psycho-Pass deteriorates greatly and she becomes apathetic and quiet.
As she researches her husband's death and learns that it has been caused by the actions of upper command, she grows vengeful and sets out to murder those she believes are responsible. Although Rin is an intelligent individual, she is swayed by emotion and is eventually tricked by a hologram, which leads to her being killed.[2]
Personal Background[]
Rin is in the same class as Teppei Sugo in their academy training days and later, serves in the same unit as Sugo and her husband as a Drone Unit Operator. Rin quits her job under the pretext of her hue clouding and starts working as a Military System Engineer at Nago Base. However, it is actually because she is pregnant.
When Itsuki goes missing, she worries greatly and talks to Sugo for support. She doesn't like that Sugo acts as if Itsuki is already dead and blames him for leaving him behind. After Sugo tells Rin to call him when or if something happens, she slaps him. Thereafter, her Psycho-Pass deteriorates greatly and she has a miscarriage. The next time Sugo meets her, she is cold towards him and when he defends her from the accusations of the detectives, she suggests he not continue in the military.
She eventually leaves the military and starts working at a local TV station. She seems to have accepted that her husband is deceased, though she wishes to see him at least one last time. However, it is later revealed that she doesn't truly accept the death of her husband and starts to do research. She uncovers information about Operation Foot Stamp, learning that her unit was betrayed by upper command which directly resulted in Itsuki's death. Rin seeks revenge and wants to kill everyone she believes is responsible. She hacks Sugo's military account in order to maneuver a drone and uses two of Itsuki's sparring robots in order to execute her plan. By speaking to Sugo through the sparring robot, she reveals the truth about the operation.[2]
Relationships[]
Itsuki Otomo[]
Rin and Itsuki are happily married where she carries his child and they work on the same task force together. Itsuki wants her to stay strong for the child, even if he is gone. However, Rin doesn't get over his disappearance and wants justice for her husband once she learns what really happened.[2]
Teppei Sugo[]
Rin and Sugo have been friends for a long time as they graduated from the same academy class during their training days. She confides in him when her husband goes missing. While she knows that Sugo doesn't know what he has done, it is likely she partially blames him for Itsuki's death. Yet, she advises Sugo to change careers, which may be due to her need to protect a friend. When Sugo learns the truth, he tries to stop her plans for revenge. Sadly, he is too late.[2]
